Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.Can I by-pass any steps and call your office with any questions?
Due to the overwhelming response to this grant, we request that all questions be emailed to us at hwri@snya.org.

2. Once I've been accepted into the program, how long do I have to wait to get reimbursed?
It may take up to one calendar year after you graduate from your program for your reimbursement process to be completed.

3. Can a person who is a member of a health care union participate even though they do not have access to educational benefits for LPN, PTA or COTA.in the SNYA program? The grant was not written to serve health care unionized employees.

4. I worked in the health care field years ago, but I don't have the pay stubs. What can I do?
You can submit your W-2 for that time period, but it must identify your previous health care employer.

5. Why is it necessary to provide pay stubs if I am currently working in the health care field?
The pay stubs provide year-to-date totals, as well as deductions which provide the necessary information to determine your eligibility.

6. If I am already in school or have been accepted to school, am I eligible?
Yes. Follow the instructions on the alert page.


7. If I am attending a school in NJ, am I eligible?
Unfortunately you are not eligible. You must be attending an approved NYS LPN/PTA/COTA school.

8. If I am not already in school, am I eligible?
Yes. Please email hwri@snya.org for information on instructional programs helping to prepare
for entrance into LPN/COTA/PTA programs.

9. How will I know if I submitted all the requested paperwork correctly?
You can verify by emailing hwri@snya.org.

10. If I don't submit all the information needed, will my submission be processed? No, all incomplete packages will be shredded to ensure security of privacy.

11. How will I know if I'm accepted into the program?
We will notify you through email if you have been accepted into the program.

12. If I’m invited to an information session and unable to attend due to illness or conflict in schedule, can I attend a future session?
Yes, but you must first re-apply and wait for another invitation via email.  Please be sure to check your email (and junk mail) everyday for a response from hwri@snya.org.  

For security purposes, when you attend an informational session, please do not bring anyone with you that has not applied to the program. Also, please do not bring any food or drinks with you.

13. If someone I know tells me about the process, can I follow their instructions or do I need to go to the website and follow the steps outlined there?
We recommend you avoid following instructions from anyone other than SNYA regarding this grant opportunity and follow the instructions on our web site.

14. Regarding any part of my sponsorship in the program, can a family member or friend call your office, email or attend a meeting or interview on my behalf?
It is required that the applicant themselves contact us with all correspondence or communications via email.

15. Does it matter where I worked (city and state) in the health care field?
No, but you must be able to provide us with documented proof.

16. Can I apply to the program if I served in the military as a health care provider?
Yes, Veteran Affairs stated that there is a form documenting medical experience in the military. It is a form known as DD214.

17. Once I am accepted into the program, when are the student weekly reports required to be submitted?
Submit your weekly progress reports via Survey Monkey (our online system) every Monday, no later than 9:00am, including vacation, holidays, school closings and all personal leave. The system shuts down automatically at 9:00am, so please be sure to start entering information prior to that time.

18. Why is it important to have my full name in an email address? It makes it easier for us to reconcile all collected information.

19. I have a question but I don't see the answer on your website, what do I do?
